Conquering Emotions One Playlist at a Time: "The Middle"

As I look through my playlist of songs I realize that there are many songs about the importance of being yourself. To not compare yourself to others, to not let others opinions define you, to not worry if other people hold judgement against you. I see these many songs as a positive reminder for us all to just be ourselves and to be okay with it.

Of course we all want to be liked and accepted, but do we want to be liked and accepted for who we really are or for someone we are trying to be? It can be hard to not worry about what others think of us. Sometimes we may even put a lot of effort into trying to convince others of what we feel like they should know or believe about us.

The thing is we can’t control what others say, do, think or believe. The only person we can control those things with is ourselves. And until we can come to know this, we can find ourselves exhausted from trying to gain control of the uncontrollable. So take a deep breath, ask yourself is this something I have control of, if it’s not then just let go. Be the best you that you can be, and the people who accept you for you are the only ones who are important and that you need as a part of your life.

What would it be like if we could be our own source of happiness rather than depending on others to decide our happiness for us?

LYRICS
Hey
Don't write yourself off yet
It's only in your head you feel left out or looked down on
Just try your best
Try everything you can
And don't you worry what they tell themselves when you're away
It just takes some time
Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything will be just fine
Everything, everything will be all right
Hey
You know they're all the same
You know you're doing better on your own so don't buy in
Live right now
Just be yourself
It doesn't matter if that's good enough for someone else
It just takes some time
Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything will be just fine
Everything, everything will be all right
It just takes some time
Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything will be just fine
Everything, everything will be all right
Hey
Don't write yourself off yet
It's only in your head you feel left out or looked down on
Just do your best
Do everything you can
Don't you worry what their bitter hearts are going to say
It just takes some time
Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything will be just fine
Everything, everything will be all right
It just takes some time
Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything will be just fine
Everything, everything will be all right
